CAA Update

The Civil Aviation Authority recently launched its new Airspace Coordination and Obstacle Management Service (ACOMS), an online facility designed to streamline aerodrome notifications for crane operations.

All crane permit applications should now be made through ACOMS, and further information is available at www.caa.co.uk

In relation to the requirements of CAA publication, CAP 1096, whilst it is anticipated that there will be changes to the distances / heights specified at some point in the near future, for the time being it remains the case that if a crane is to be used within 6km of an aerodrome / airfield and its height or load will exceed 10m or that of surrounding structures or trees (if higher), the Appointed Person should use ACOMS to request permission to proceed.
