Appointed Person Training

  • Accredited Training

The ALLMI Appointed Person (AP) course is the only accredited AP training programme in the UK to be dedicated to lorry loader lifting operations. The course is fully compliant with the requirements of the Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and BS7121 Part 4: 2010.

The course is either two or three days in duration (depending on previous training and experience), with candidates also having the option of attending an additional Foundation course beforehand, if they feel the extra tuition is required.

Click here to see a list of the AP training course modules.

Upon completion of the training, candidates undergo assessments designed to establish their skills / knowledge as an AP. Assessments include:

    • Questions on health and safety legislation, lorry loaders, slinging / signalling, the role / responsibilities of an AP and the considerations / requirements of lift planning.
    • Preparation of a site- and task-specific Lift Plan based on a randomly selected scenario, including selection of suitable lifting accessories, spreader mats and other equipment.

As well as on-going support from ALLMI, via the 'AP Area' of the ALLMI website successful candidates receive a range of electronic documents that will assist them in their role as an AP. Successful candidates also receive an identity card and certificate, and are registered on the ALLMI database. Click here to see the Appointed Person Card and Certificate.

The identity card and certificate are valid for five years, after which time refresher training and assessments need to be undertaken.

The strength and quality of ALLMI’s AP training course comes from the experience and knowledge of its AP Working Group members. The Working Group is made up of representatives from a variety of the UK’s leading training providers and fleet owners, as well as the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

  • Training & Guidance

In order to apply for a place on an ALLMI Appointed Person course, potential candidates need to complete and return the Guidance & Registration Form.

Please note, the form contains an Aptitude Test.  The Aptitude Test does not need to be completed for an application to be accepted, but rather it is designed to assist employers in selecting the right candidate(s) for the course.

The ALLMI AP course is approved by CSCS
