ALLMI Membership Event 2016 - Review

CSCS Approval for ALLMI

Smartphone App Update

ALLMI's Membership Event on 5th October saw delegates updated on the development of the Association's smartphone App, which is currently undergoing beta phase testing.  Initially being designed for iPhone and Android operating systems, the App will contain a range of features for all industry stakeholders.

Record Training Levels Reported

ALLMI recently reported record training levels for its 2015/16 financial year, with the Association experiencing ever-increasing demand for the lorry loader industry’s most recognised card scheme.  As early figures indicate further rises for the current 2016/17 financial year, this trend shows no signs of slowing.

New ALLMI Guidance - Coming Soon

ALLMI is currently finalising a raft of new guidance documents, which are due to be released to the lorry loader industry in the coming months.  Covering a wide range of topics and representing the culmination of a number of projects conducted throughout 2016, the documents will soon be reviewed for final approval by the ALLMI Technical Standards Committee (TSC).

ALLMI Joins Build UK

ALLMI has recently joined Build UK as a Trade Association member.  Created as a result of the merger between the National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC) and the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) in 2015, Build UK provides a collective voice for the contracting supply chain in construction and ALLMI’s recent membership approval forms an even stronger link between the two organisations.

New Technical Manager for ALLMI

As the former Lifting Operations Manager for portable accommodation and storage provider, Mobile Mini, Keith Silvester takes over from Alan Johnson and is responsible for all technical aspects of ALLMI’s activities.

BS7121 Part 1 Publication

The revised version of “BS7121 Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Cranes - Part 1: General” has now been published. BS7121-1:2016 came into effect on 31st January and supersedes BS7121-1:2006, which has now been withdrawn.

Further Expansion for ALLMI

ALLMI’s membership continues to rapidly expand, with new member registrations for quarters three and four of 2015 nearly doubling the figure experienced in the same period the previous year.  The Association also has a significant number of applications pending at present and so, if the companies concerned successfully complete the stringent joining process, ALLMI could be looking at record membership growth over a 12-month period.

ALLMI Operators’ Forum - 10 Years Old!

Training Scheme Review Update

ALLMI recently completed the primary consultation phase for its Training Scheme Review (TSR).  With the project having been launched just over 12 months ago at the inaugural meeting of the TSR’s Supervisory Board, ALLMI has since been working on new material for its lorry loader operator training programme, draft copies of which were sent to all members and training providers as part of the consultation process.

BS7121 Part 1 Publication

Further to the BSI meeting held in September which saw a review of all feedback resulting from the Draft for Public Comment phase, a final version of the revised BS7121 Part 1 was recently approved by MHE/3/11, and has subsequently been submitted to the overseeing group, MHE/3, for signing off. Subject to MHE/3’s approval, the new Standard should be published and available to purchase from January 2016 onwards.

Product Familiarisation Guidance Documents

Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), as well as The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, there is a clear legal duty on the part of the employer and the employee for lorry loaders to be operated safely.  An important aspect of ensuring this is for the operator to be fully conversant with the lorry loader being used, and so they must not only undergo the appropriate basic training, but also receive machine familiarisation at the point of handover.

A Tribute to the late Peter Ellison

ALLMI recently received the very sad news that one of its Technical Standards Committee members, Peter Ellison, had passed away. An Applications Engineer who worked for Cargotec UK for more than 40 years, Peter was one of the longest serving members of the ALLMI Technical Standards Committee and he played a significant role in the development of many ALLMI guidance documents, as well as the Association’s Thorough Examination training course.

Course Dates for 2016
