  • The Importance of Hiab Operator Training

    For the purpose of this article, the term ‘Hiab’ will be used.  However, Hiab is simply a brand name; the correct term for the equipment is ‘loader crane’ or ‘lorry loader’ (when mounted to a commercial vehicle).  Other manufacturers of loader crane include Atlas, Cormach, Fassi, HMF, Hyva, Palfinger, Penny Hydraulics and PM.

    What is Hiab Operator Training? 

    The use of inadequately trained Hiab operators can be a major cause of accidents.  Even if such accidents do not cause a fatality or an injury, they will almost certainly lead to costly legal action or damaged equipment. Therefore, quality Hiab operator training is a must.  A properly trained Hiab operator is also a more profitable one, providing higher levels of efficiency and less downtime, as well as a safer working environment.  ALLMI instructors can supply the rigorous and all-inclusive Hiab operator training necessary to achieve these benefits.

  • Is it a legal requirement to hold a Hiab operator qualification?

    It is not a legal requirement to hold a Hiab operator qualification. However, it is a legal requirement to be trained and competent in the use of the equipment. One of the most effective ways to demonstrate that quality Hiab operator training has been undertaken is to carry the ALLMI card. The ALLMI card is widely regarded as the most recognised Hiab operator qualification and many sites will ask for it - without it, you may find it difficult to gain access. 

    What about the quality of ALLMI Instructors? 

    ALLMI has over 200 accredited Hiab training instructors throughout the UK and Ireland.  All hold recognised operator, slinger / signaller and instructional techniques qualifications, and have extensive experience with the equipment.  In addition, instructors must successfully complete the ALLMI Instructor Course and all are audited at least annually in order to ensure a high standard is maintained across the ALLMI training provider network. 

    What should a Hiab Operator Course Syllabus Include?

  • How long is a Hiab Operator Training Course? 

    ALLMI provides novice (two day duration), experienced (one day) and conversion courses for operators, which include theoretical and practical instruction and assessment relevant to the category of machine being trained on. 

    Every successful Hiab operator receives a certificate and identity card, as well as the ALLMI Operator Manual.  

    How much does Hiab Operator Training cost? 

    Hiab operator training is delivered by our network of accredited ALLMI instructors.  Course prices will vary from one provider to another, depending on course type and duration, candidate numbers, whether a training vehicle is required (or supplied by the customer), and a number of other factors.  For more information on Hiab operator course costs, please contact a training provider.

    How long does a Hiab Operator Licence last? 

    ALLMI certification is valid for 5 years, after which time refresher training and assessment will need to be undertaken.
